Gmail is a web-based email service that is used to send and receive email messages via the Internet. It is developed by Google.An email address is made up of two parts, an identifier for the user and the server that hosts the mailbox. The identifier part is usually made up of the user's name or their username. The hostname is the domain name of the server the mailbox is stored on. In the case of Gmail, the mailbox identifier is typically a username@gmail.com. The hostname is also a domain name but unlike most other mail servers, it is not owned by an individual or organization and instead owned by Google. Therefore, no two users can have the same mailbox identifier (username. on Gmail. For example, if you were able to create a gmail account with your name, you would not be able to create another one with your name after someone else already did.Gmail users can send and receive email from any computer with Internet access using either a web browser or email client programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird (a free email application. Integration of Gmail and WHMCS

Gmail supports POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocps at the time of writing (2012. POP3 and IMAP allow users to download emails to their own computer where they can then be stored until the end user chooses to delete them. Only one copy of each message will be stored on Google's servers at any given time; the copies on the end user's computer and Google's server are synchronized periodically so that both copies always represent exactly the same messages at all times. This allows users to view their email from different locations (for example, viewing it on their home computer and then reading it on their mobile device when they are away from home. without needing to download messages to both locations.

SMTP protocp on the other hand uses a store-and-forward mechanism to transfer messages. When configured to use SMTP protocp, Gmail will accept emails from other systems and store them on Google's servers until they are retrieved by their recipients. Thus for this protocp both copies of the same email would be stored on Google's servers only once. This means that if a message was sent to 100 recipients that all had Gmail accounts then 100 copies of that message would be stored on Google servers only once instead of 100 times. Also note that although it uses SMTP protocp it does not offer full SMTP functionality; it does not support sending email using SMTP protocp for example .

Because Gmail supports POP3 protocp only then it is impossible for end users to reply from within their Gmail client even if they have their emails forwarded to their Gmail accounts by WHMCS.
