Integration of Gmail and SugarCRM

  • What is Gmail? Google's Gmail is an email service that allows users to send and receive emails and store their email in their web browser, as opposed to using an email client. When first launched in 2004, the most noticeable difference from other email services was the use of inbox tabs instead of fpders, which allowed users to quickly navigate through their emails.
  • What is SugarCRM? SugarCRM is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM. program designed for small, medium, and enterprise level businesses. SugarCRM uses a web-based interface that allows users to access its features through a Web Browser. SugarCRM also allows users to install it on their own server, allowing them to make changes and additions to the system without relying on third party developers.
  • Integration of Gmail and SugarCRM

    • Compatible Software Systems. Gmail and SugarCRM are both computer programs, so they are compatible with each other.
    • Email is stored in your browser. Gmail stores all email in your browser, while SugarCRM stores all CRM data in its database. Unlike with Gmail, this means that SugarCRM cannot be used as a substitute for email – emails are not sent directly from the program to the recipient.
    • Backing up Gmail. You can use Google Drive to automatically backup all your emails. However, you can only back up SugarCRM data manually by exporting all data or saving it to a .zip file and backing up the files.
    • Synchronization Issues. Since both programs store email or CRM data in a different location, synchronization between the two programs could cause problems if the synchronization is not done properly.
    • Technical Difficulties. If SugarCRM is installed on a server, then the computer or server must be running at all times. This could cause technical difficulties for some users who do not have enough power to run a server 24/7. If SugarCRM is installed on a Mac or PC (rather than a server), then there could be technical difficulties when trying to run the program on a computer with limited memory or processor power (such as an pder Windows XP computer. On top of this, issues would arise if multiple SugarCRMs were installed on one computer because it would take up too much memory.
    • Storage Space. If SugarCRM is installed on a Mac or PC (rather than a server), then there is still a limit to how much memory can be used by SugarCRM because there is still a limit to how much storage space is available on that computer. This would not be an issue if SugarCRM was installed on a server (which has unlimited memory. but it would not work well for someone with limited internet or server capabilities.
    • Conflicts Between Programs. If SugarCRM is installed on a Mac or PC (rather than a server), then it may conflict with other programs that are already installed on the computer. In addition, it would conflict with any other programs that are installed after SugarCRM because they would use up more memory and processing power than before. Programs that conflict with SugarCRM include AntiVirus programs such as Norton AntiVirus, which may cause SugarCRM to shut down randomly and performance of the program will slow down significantly.
    • Synchronization Issues. A lot of synchronization issues would arise if both programs were installed on one computer with limited resources (such as an pd Windows XP computer. A lot of these synchronization issues would be caused by constant crashing of the programs, such as when running Norton AntiVirus programs or browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. These issues could really slow down the computer drastically if they were not fixed soon.
    • Multiple Accounts. Gmail allows you to use multiple email accounts at once; however, SugarCRM allows you to have one account only, so you cannot have multiple accounts within one system.
    • Size of Data and Emails. Since SugarCRM stores all its data on one computer and Gmail stores all its emails in one browser window, SugarCRM will run out of room very quickly if it does not automatically remove pd data, while Gmail would lose space over time if it did not add more storage space to your browser.
