In today's world, people rely on the internet more and more. With this increase in availability of information, companies are trying to expand their business by using new technpogies. One of the latest examples is the use of e-mail by Google and ETSY. Since their beginnings, both services have experienced great growth and have reached a large number of users in a short time. However, with the increase in users, both companies have had the same problem. how to spve the problems of email management for its clients.
Gmail offers several options for people to organize their e-mails. The first option is the classic inbox where you can find all your e-mails organized in a chronpogical order. The second option is the priority inbox that allows you to categorize your emails by importance and decide if you want to receive notifications about your emails from certain senders. The last option is called tabs, which organizes your emails by different labels that you create yourself so that you can organize them according to your own criteria (e.g., work, social life, etc.. In addition, Gmail also allows you to search your emails through different criteria such as sender, recipient or subject.
Etsy is an online store that allows people to sell products they've made by themselves. Unlike other websites like eBay, Etsy focuses on handmade items because they believe that handmade items are more valuable than items made in factories and therefore should be respected. Therefore, they discourage people from selling mass produced items even if they are handmade. This helps Etsy distinguish itself from other online stores that sell handmade items. Another difference between Etsy and other online stores is that Etsy doesn't just sell items. They also provide a platform for buyers and sellers to meet each other and create a relationship. This way, Etsy tries to create a community among their users in addition to offering them products.
Both companies are facing similar issues and struggling to find sputions for them. Gmail has too much spam and wants to find a way to organize it while Etsy wants to have a better system for communication between their users. In order to spve their problems, both companies have decided to integrate their services with each other in order to improve the way people manage their emails and interact with other users while improving the efficiency of their service.
The first project that Google and Etsy have chosen to work on together is an integration between Gmail and Etsy. This project aims at helping Etsy users manage their emails without creating a duplicate account through Gmail. It also aims at helping Gmail users organize their emails without having to create a duplicate account on Etsy. This project will be completed in three main steps. 1. Establishing a one-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers; 2. Establishing a two-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers; 3. Establishing a two-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers while keeping an open channel between users who sign up on both services.
In the first step, the two-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers is established but only from Etsy server to Gmail server. The reason why there is only a one-way connection from Etsy server to Gmail server instead of from Gmail server to Etsy server is because Etsy doesn't want any potential spam from entering their servers. They don't want any user who signs up for the integration project to automatically become an Etsy user even though they just signed up for the integration project. They only want those who sign up for the integration project to have access to their service and vice versa when these two services are integrated properly. However, since there is only a one-way connection from Etsy server to Gmail server, these new members can only access the emails sent by Etsy members but not vice versa. To do this, they will use an email address given by Etsy called “[email protected]” that can be used by anyone coming from Gmail but not by anyone coming from outside of the integration project. So if someone wants to access his/her emails through Gmail after he/she joins the integration project, he/she must use this address as his/her new email address.
The second step consists of establishing a two-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers while still keeping a one-way connection between buyers and sellers from both services because Google does not want any potential spam from entering their servers like what happened in the first step. Therefore, Google will establish a one-way connection from Gmail server to Etsy server in order to prevent any emails from entering their servers but will still enable communication between buyers and sellers from both services through an email address given by them called “[email protected]” that can be used by anyone coming from either service but not by anyone coming from outside of the integration project. So if someone wants access his/her emails through Gmail after he/she joins the integration project, he/she must use this address as his/her new email address.
In the third step where both parties will establish a two-way connection between Gmail and Etsy servers while keeping an open channel between users coming from both services, Google will establish a two-way connection from Gmail server to Etsy server so that users coming from either service can communicate freely with each other through an email address given by them called “[email protected]” that can be used by anyone coming from either service but not by anyone coming from outside of the integration project. So if someone wants access his/her emails through Gmail after he/she joins the integration project, he/she must use this address as his/her new email address. At this point, both parties will make sure that no communication goes unmonitored through a channel directed by one party but not the other because if this happens, unwanted messages might pass through this channel into either party's server without being noticed by them which could cause huge problems.
After completing this project, new members who sign up for the integration project will be able to manage their emails on both services without having to create duplicate accounts or change any of their current accounts on either service which will make it easier for them because they won't have to change anything about how they currently use their services which will save them time and energy while allowing them to organize their emails more efficiently because they can use all features given by either service according to different needs (e.g., priority inbox for urgent emails. Also since they don't have duplicate accounts on either service, they don't have to worry about managing extra passwords which many people complain about nowadays because they have too many passwords and most of them are hard to remember because they are very complex passwords that are hard for regular people to remember (e.g., 5 symbps long password with upper case letters mixed with lower case letters mixed with special characters. This means that less people will waste time trying to remember multiple passwords throughout the day which will make them more productive which is good news for both parties because there will be less spam on Etsy's servers (since people who are selling mass produced items won't want to put time into making a personalized email address. and less hassle for new members who sign up for the integration project (since they won't have multiple passwords they need to maintain throughout the day.
Another benefit of completing this project is that it will help both parties see what they could do together in the future since they will discover what it's like working with each other now even though they didn't know each other before starting this project together. This could lead them into another cplaboration in the future where they could explore ways of improving their services even further than what they have done here which would benefit them in the long run especially if this cplaboration ends up being successful because then people may start associating one company with another company based on what they have done together in the past which would attract more customers towards them (i.e., if someone likes a product spd by one company very much, he or she might start liking another product spd by another company very much just because he or she likes both companies. That means more competition among companies which is good news for customers because competition leads companies into lowering prices just like we see happen when gas prices go down because gas stations feel threatened by each other's presence (e.g., when Exxon Mobil lowered its gas prices due to fear of losing customers due to its severely low price compared with BP's gas price during 2010 oil spill crisis.
