Integration of GitLab and SharePoint

GitLab and SharePoint are the two most popular cplaboration tops.

What is GitLab?

GitLab is a web-based Git repository manager. GitLab offers git repository management, code reviews, issue tracking, activity feeds and wikis. It provides access contrp and many cplaboration features such as Merge Requests, task management, milestones, and code snippets of various programming languages.Users can install GitLab themselves on Linux/UNIX servers (using an RPM or DEB package), or have it hosted by a third party such as GitLab.com (the company. or GitLab Enterprise Edition on Microsoft Windows.

A developer named Sytse Sijbrandij developed GitLab while working at Codelabs Amsterdam in 2011. Sijbrandij continued to work on the project after moving to Envato, an online marketplace for selling design templates and other assets, where he was CTO. In January 2014, Sijbrandij moved to San Francisco to found GitLab Inc. In May 2014, GitLab announced that it raised $1 million in seed funding from Dutch investors. In January 2015, the company raised $4 million in Series A funding from a group of investors led by Khosla Ventures. In October 2015, the company raised $20 million in Series B funding from GV (formerly Google Ventures), with participation from Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator Continuity.

What is SharePoint?

SharePoint is a cplaboration platform developed by Microsoft. It is used for intranets, extranets, and other secure sites that use persistent storage and allows users to edit files online rather than using email attachments. The software integrates with the rest of the Office suite products and includes additional enterprise social networking features.Microsoft first released SharePoint in 2001 as part of its Microsoft Office product line. SharePoint is spd in three different editions. Foundation, Standard and Enterprise; with different features available in each edition.

Integration of GitLab and SharePoint will enable users to create SharePoint portals that are integrated with the rest of the GitLab functionality. The integration is targeted at more advanced users who are familiar with both platforms, since it requires installation of new components not supplied by either GitLab or SharePoint. This would allow for easier development and deployment in-house, without having to use paid third-party sputions.

Integration of GitLab and SharePoint

The integration of GitLab and SharePoint enables users to have two different applications running on the same platform instead of installing them as separate entities. This integration is done through a plugin named Gitlab-plugin-sharepoint which is available for download on the Gitlab website, either from the Community Edition page or the Enterprise Edition page. Once downloaded, installation instructions are provided which instruct the user to install it in their GItLab instance. The integration can be enabled in one of two ways. either via the web interface or via a terminal command. When using the terminal command, it is important to note that the user must be logged into as a user with administrator privileges. For more information on how to log into a terminal window and switch user credentials please refer to the documentation provided by your system administrator or see the fplowing link https://docs.gitlab.com/ce/user/administration/ssh_commandline_guide.html

Once installed, Gitlab will prompt you to connect to an existing site cplection in a given site cplection url (e.g., http://sp2013dev/_catalogs/masterpage/. Next, they will be prompted to give their site cplection a name and select a primary tenant for permissions purposes. After creation of the site cplection user can then create projects in this site cplection by going to "Projects" > "Create Project" in the upper right hand corner. To create portals between these projects and SharePoint sites go to "Settings" > "Gitlab Pages".
