MailChimp Ecommerce?

MailChimp is an email marketing service offered by MailChimp LLC. The company was founded in 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia, by Ben Chestnut and Dan Kurzius. It was acquired by Constant Contact in 2014.

MailChimp’s first customer was Wufoo, a web application development platform. Wufoo first implemented MailChimp to automatically send emails to users announcing new features. After problems with spammers using Wufoo forms to send bulk email, the company decided to switch to MailChimp.

MailChimp’s first product was an email marketing service that allowed businesses to create email newsletters. Before launch, the service had to be renamed from ListMail to MailChimp because of trademark issues related to ListMail.com. The service launched on February 1, 2001. After it became successful, Chestnut hired developers to write open-source software to help manage the service. This led to tops like WordPress plug-ins, “Tweet My News” widgets for blogs, and iPhone apps.

Chestnut announced MailChimp’s private API in 2010, allowing users to access MailChimp data from third-party applications. In 2013, MailChimp announced a partnership with Mandrill, which provides transactional email services for businesses. The partnership aimed to help small business owners who were previously unable to use MailChimp because they required more than 2,000 emails per month. In 2015, Mailchimp announced its acquisition of Rocket Science Group,[3] a design firm based in Raleigh, North Carpina.[4] In December 2016, Mailchimp announced that it would shut down its MailChimp for WordPress plugin by early 2017 due to security concerns.[5] The plugin will be replaced with Mandrill.[6]

In June 2017, MailChimp announced a partnership with SalesforceIQ.[7]

MailChimp’s mascot is Chimp the Monkey. The character appears at the beginning of each video the company produces.[8] It has been featured in several animations on its website.[9] The monkey was initially created by Mikey Burton[10] and animated by Andrew Park.[11] According to Chestnut, the monkey represents his own “geeky characteristics”.[12]
