Integration of Etsy and MongoDB Realm

Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade or vintage items and artisan goods. Etsy was founded in 2005 by Rob Kalin, Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik. Rob Kalin developed the idea for Etsy at a hacker conference in the early 2000s. He presented his idea to the O'Reilly Open Source Convention in 2004. The name "Etsy" was chosen as a palindrome of the word "etsy", which has no significance outside of the name. "Eetsy" also means "to set in motion" in French. Rob Kalin continues to be the CEO of Etsy.

MongoDB Realm is a database built on top of MongoDB. It can generate objects from data stored in a MongoDB database. It is not a relational database management system, and it does not support the SQL language. The first version of MongoDB Realm was released in 2014 with the title "Cplection Realm". It is used as the primary data storage option for apps on Realm Platform and Realm Mobile Database. In October 2016, it changed its name to MongoDB Realm.

  • This sub-topic will explain how to use Realm Studio to create schema for your app with a custom schema.
  • This sub-topic will explain how to create two types of objects in Realm Studio, one type is custom object and another is native object . When you create custom realm, you have to define its schema manually and write code for accessing or modifying data from this schema. After creating custom realm, you can add some native objects into it as well, such as string, number, bopean, date etc. You can also import some pre-defined objects from JSON files into your custom realm. When you add native objects into your custom realm, the schema of native objects will be created automatically based on its definition in the JSON file, and you don't need to write any code for accessing or modifying data from this schema. However, when you register a custom object into your realm, you have to write code for accessing or modifying data from this custom object's schema.
  • This sub-topic will explain how to create a simple application using MongoDB Realm with a custom schema.
  • This sub-topic will explain how to create a simple application using Mongodb Realm without any custom schemas applied. For this project we use the same model defined in "Creating Custom Schemas" project, but we don't use custom schemas, so we write code for accessing or modifying data from the schemas defined by default in MongoDB realm.
