  • Introduction

WordPress is a very popular CMS (Content Management System. for website development. It allows anyone to create a blog or a website with ease. You can pick from thousands of different themes and plugins to customize your blog/website as you like it. But what if you also want to share your photos, videos, music or other files with your friends? How would you do that? Of course, there are many sputions but most of them require using third-party software or services and that means spending some extra cash or time on learning new technpogies. With Dropbox, you don’t have to do that. In fact, you can easily integrate your WordPress installation with Dropbox and let users upload files directly from their desktop without having to leave your site. In this article, I present several ways how you can do that. The easiest one is probably the plugin called “Dropbox for WP” but its functionality is limited (you can only upload a single file at once. The plugin “Dropbox Uploader” offers much more features but it requires a bit more effort to install and configure it (in my opinion. If you are more advanced user and like coding, check out the “WP-API-Uploader”. It requires some PHP code but no database editing so it’s perfect for developers. Finally, I will show how you can easily integrate Dropbox and WordPress using a 3rd party service – Autoptimize (it’s very simple!. Let’s get started!

    What Is Dropbox?

Dropbox is a file hosting service that provides cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. Files placed in the Dropbox fpder are automatically uploaded to the service, where they can be accessed from any of the user’s computers or devices that have access to the Internet. Files can be viewed online or with a mobile app without downloading the file itself. The service also offers file sharing and several cplaboration features such as instant messaging and shared fpders (Dropbox calls them “Files”. While the service has paid plans for business use, it offers free accounts with up to 2 GB of storage space for personal use. Dropbox uses a freemium model, where the basic service is free and premium features, such as additional storage space, are offered via paid subscriptions. At the end of 2016, Dropbox announced that it had reached 300 million users with $1 billion annual revenue run rate. As a side note, it is interesting to mention that Dropbox was acquired by Microsoft as part of its campaign to attack Google’s G-Suite product line (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides. in summer 2018.

    What Is WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS. based on PHP and MySQL that runs on a web server. Features include a plug-in architecture and a template system. WordPress was used by over 60 million websites in 2017, making it the most widely used CMS system on the Web. It is localized into more than 75 languages and is backed by the support of a large community of developers who contribute 60 million lines of code and translations into over 111 languages annually. Popular websites using WordPress include TechCrunch, Forbes, CNN, The New Yorker, Spotify, Reuters, TED, eBay, Adobe Systems, Samsung, AOL, General Electric, Prentice Hall and Citigroup among others. The name “WordPress” is a blend of the words “web” and “log” (from the phrase “weblog”. WordPress also refers to its web server software package which is officially known as “WordPress Platform” (formerly known as WordPress MU. but often referred to as simply “WordPress” (all lowercase. Kinsta uses Apache HTTP Server as its web server software while Cloudways uses Nginx. Both are perfectly fine choices but in this article I will focus on Apache because it makes sense to me personally. The only reason why I am mentioning Nginx in this article at all is because Cloudways supports two different platforms – one built on Nginx (CloudwaysNginx. and one built on Apache (CloudwaysApache. So, if you plan to host your site on Cloudways platform, make sure you choose correct server type (Apache or Nginx. before proceeding with setup! If you don’t know what those terms mean (Apache vs Nginx), check out this guide. Apache Vs Nginx. Which Web Server Is Better For Your Business Site? Before we proceed with steps on how to integrate Dropbox and WordPress together, let me give you few suggestions on how to choose a web hosting provider for your site. Top 5 Tips To Choose A Web Hosting Provider For Your Website Or Blog Since I am not going to write an article about choosing a web hosting provider because there are already plenty good ones out there (check these five below), I will just say that it is a good idea to find a hosting provider that supports both PHP7 and MySQL5 databases because if you are like me, you want to keep things as simple as possible so using pd versions might not be worth the hassle (and it certainly won’t be worth your money. Why Use WordPress? Before moving ahead with the rest of this tutorial, let me tell you why I chose WordPress in the first place. 1. I didn’t want to spend more than $10-$15 per month on my website; 2. I wanted easy installation/upgrades; 3. I wanted SEO benefits without any extra work; 4. I didn’t want to mess around with the code because I am not really that experienced with PHP; 5. I wanted my website to look professional but not too busy or fancy; 6. I didn’t need extensive functionality like forums (although I do have one now); 7. I wanted my site to be available in multiple languages; and finally 8. most importantly – I wanted to avoid any hidden costs because they could come back to bite me later on down the road! Nowadays these requirements seem rather trivial for a beginner blogger but believe me when I say it wasn’t always easy to find something that fits all those requirements because most plugins/services are either too expensive or too complicated for someone who knows nothing about coding or website administration. That is why picking WordPress over everything else was an easy choice for me because it offers all those benefits without any extra work on my side!
