Dropbox is an American commercial company that provides cloud services for storing, hosting, sharing, and synchronizing data. The company was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowski, both of whom were former employees of the file-sharing service Hotmail. It has received several rounds of venture funding from Sequoia Capital, Accel Partners, and others, and is backed by the venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz and Founders Fund. Dropbox uses a freemium business model, where users are offered a free account with a set storage size, which can be upgraded to a paid account with more capacity.
