Integration of Downtime Alert and JotForm

JotForm is a free web application that you can use to create forms, surveys, quizzes, and ppls. If you want to cplect information from your website visitors, send subscription emails, or create online registration forms, JotForm can help you do it quickly and easily. You can embed forms into your webpage without any programming. You can also pay for premium services, such as exporting data to SQL databases or creating custom themes for your forms.

Downtime Alert alerts you when one of your websites goes down. It works by periodically pinging each of your websites to see if they are up or down. If the ping attempt times out, then Downtime Alert assumes that the website is down, and sends you a notification email with the subject line "Website Down For Maintenance."

Integration of Downtime Alert and JotForm

For this assignment, we will integrate Downtime Alert and JotForm. If we integrate these two applications together, then whenever Downtime Alert notices that a website goes down (due to some scheduled maintenance), Downtime Alert will notify JotForm. When JotForm receives a notification from Downtime Alert, JotForm will send a notification email to its users informing them that the website has gone down.

Benefits of Integration of Downtime Alert and JotForm

Integrating these two applications together will provide us with the fplowing benefits:

  • Whenever we schedule our website for downtime, we will be able to send a message to our customers and inform them about our maintenance schedule. This way our customers will know when they should not try to access our site during those time periods.
  • We will be able to send out email notifications to registered users in our database whenever we schedule downtime for our site. This way our users will know when to expect downtime and when to expect normal service from our site.
  • Rather than having to create an email message ourselves informing users about site downtime, we can simply rely on JotForm's email service to send out this message for us. This saves us a lot of time because we don't have to develop our own system for sending out notifications about site downtime.
