I will start by saying that I love both Google Calendar and Downtime Alert. I am a huge fan of both tops, and I use them together to help organize my day. I have been looking for a way to integrate the two tops so that when an alert is sent out, it automatically shows up on my calendar. This saves me time because I no longer have to go into my email to see when I need to be aware of a maintenance event. It also helps in case I miss the alert. Google Calendar allows me to see when maintenance events are occurring, and if there is a scheduled downtime event, I can plan around it.
Now that you know why I want to integrate Google Calendar with Downtime Alert, let's talk about how to do it. When you click on the link in the email, you see a list of all available dates and times for outages. Each outage has a time listed, along with a message stating what is being updated or changed. The time ranges from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Some outages are as short as 10 minutes while others are several hours long. Once you choose an outage date and time, a separate window opens with your Google calendar opened in it. You can choose an existing calendar or create a new one with this outage information. The calendar then updates to reflect the chosen outage time frame. Now you can plan accordingly. If you don't have any appointments during the scheduled maintenance hours, then you can go ahead and click on "Remind Me Later" to schedule an alert for later in the day or week.
