Downtime Alert?

The Downtime Alert service is a free, open-source monitoring top that sends email and SMS alerts when a website goes down. It is quite lightweight and easy to set up. You can choose what type of alert you want to receive – text or email. To get the free service, you do need to sign up for an account with Github.

GitHub?

GitHub is a web service that hosts git repositories. It's a code hosting site that lets developers share code and build projects together. Git is a free and open source distributed version contrp system. It's most commonly used for source code management in development environments. It's also used for configuration management of application deployment.

Integration of Downtime Alert and GitHub

Downtime Alert is integrated with GitHub which means that if your website goes down, it will notify you about it via GitHub's status page. There are two types of notifications when you're on GitHub's status page – red and yellow. Red means there's an error, while yellow means there's a warning about the status of your site. It will show you the issue as well such as “500 Internal Server Error” in the red notification. If your website goes down, Downtime Alert will let you know immediately through this notification. You can change this option later if you would like to receive more than one type of alert. Click on “Save Changes” to finish setting up your integration with GitHub!
