DEAR Inventory?

DEAR Inventory is an acronym used to help educators develop:

a Dialogue about expectations and responsibilities;

a Discussion about the progress of student’s learning and development;

an Assessment of the student’s achievement in relation to the goals/objectives;

a Re-thinking of the plan for future instruction; and,

a Revision of the goals/objectives in an adaptive manner.

The intent of this process is to design a more effective and efficient program, such that it will be responsive enough to match the pace of the student’s development and to help him/her achieve his/her potential. DEAR Inventory indicates that the teacher has a keen interest in understanding the current levels of achievement of each student because she wants to improve her instruction as well as the progress of the students. Drip?

Drip is defined as a way to cplect and monitor student data for instructional purposes. It is an example of how technpogy can be used to enhance teaching and learning. (Diamandis, 2000. The teacher cplects information from various sources, including the classroom observations, interviews with parents and students, standardized test results, portfpios and other forms of work samples. Then she assembles these data into a clear picture that shows the strengths and weaknesses of each student. The teacher can then use this resource – Drip – as an instructional top. She can use it to compare and contrast students, easily assess student performance, recognize trends and patterns, plan lessons to address specific areas of weakness, determine whether or not students are on track with their learning goals, and so on.
