Integration of Clubhouse and Canny

Clubhouse is a non-profit organization, which brings together people with autism and those who are neurotypical. It is an intervention program run by the staff of Canny. Clubhouse was first established in Toronto, Canada by Dr. James Ballentyne in 1994. It was named after the clubhouse of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB. It is a place where people with autism can find a sense of belonging and purpose. In 2013, it was then replicated in Calgary and since then has been running in both cities. Clubhouse helps autistic individuals to improve their skills on communication, socialization, and employment.

Canny is an organization that provides programs for autism spectrum disorder (ASD. in Calgary, Alberta. It was founded in 2001 as a response to the growing number of children diagnosed with autism. Canny offers a variety of supports including education, employment and housing services, play programs and one-to-one support. The goal of Canny is to improve the quality of life of children with ASD and their families.

Clubhouse and Canny have come together in order to form a unified community called “Canny Clubhouse”. Its main purpose is to provide better service to people with ASD. According to Robert Skelly, Canny’s CEO, this new partnership “is going to be a game changer for us.”
