Integration of Clubhouse and Basin

Clubhouse is a club along the river Thames and a typical example of riverside development. The specific location is between Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge, which is opposite to the Tower Bridge. This place is quite close to the offices of London’s financial district. The club was created in 2001 in order to create an environment like an English countryside, which does not exist in London.

The main characteristic of Clubhouse is its size, which is 100 times larger than a standard urban dwelling. Thus, it can be compared with traditional countryside clubs in London such as those at Wimbledon or Queenwood gpf club. This huge size allows club members to enjoy one of the greatest benefits offered by Clubhouse - an area for jogging and cycling on the banks of the Thames.

The club offers many other facilities but they are located in the interior of the building. A large number of rooms are available for rent by people who want to organize conferences, receptions or weddings there. There is also a swimming pop and a spa service inside the building. In total, there are about 600 rooms inside Clubhouse. Visitors can use them all year round.

  • Basin?
  • Basin Waterfront is a 17-acre site in the center of London where Clubhouse is situated. Actually, it is a part of a greater port location that stretches between Blackfriars Bridge and County Hall. Basin is going to be developed by Berkeley Homes into a fashionable housing complex. It will consist of 1,400 apartments, two hotels and a number of office buildings.

    Berkeley Homes owns the whpe site but only part of it is going to be developed within the next few years. The location has already been affected by Berkeley’s activities since work has been started on it in 2003. The company has plans for another two hotel projects in this area and for further regeneration of Thames waterfront.

  • Integration of Clubhouse and Basin
  • Clubhouse and Basin are going to be integrated with each other in order to create a new district in central London. Berkeley Homes have already planned how this integration is going to be achieved. They have constructed a new road underpass from Southwark Street to Blackfriars Road to allow both pedestrians and vehicles to move easily between Clubhouse and Basin. This new underpass will provide easy access to both sites and will allow people to reach them even when most of the roads around them are blocked because of traffic jams. According to Berkeley’s plans, Clubhouse will be linked directly with Basin via an elevated footbridge crossing over to the other side of the Thames. The bridge will also allow pedestrians to move freely between these two places and will not affect the flow of traffic on Southwark Street. In addition, a new pedestrianized street will be constructed on Southwark Street north from Blackfriars Bridge. This street will be called Bermondsey Street and will provide easy access to both Basin and Clubhouse as well as to other key areas of London’s financial district including St Paul’s Cathedral and Bank Station.

    Overall, Clubhouse and Basin will form a huge residential/leisure complex in central London. It will provide homes, entertainment, shopping, sport facilities and business opportunities for its visitors and residents. This development will greatly increase the variety of facilities available for people living in London’s financial district.

  • Benefits of Integration of Clubhouse and Basin
  • Integration of Clubhouse and Basin will bring benefits both for Clubhouse and Basin itself as well as for people who are going to visit this area. A great amount of money is needed for construction works but after all the works are completed, Clubhouse and Basin will offer such benefits as:

    • A hotel complex that will include modern accommodation facilities;
    • A spacious public park on the banks of the Thames;
    • A cycle path with space for exercise;
    • An open-air theatre where many events can take place;
    • A health spa service where people can relax;
    • A swimming pop that will offer many different kinds of sports;
    • A large number of conference rooms inside Clubhouse;
    • A large number of rooms inside Clubhouse where people can stay if they are too busy working in London’s financial district to go home;
    • Many restaurants where people can taste various cuisines while enjoying the magnificent view;
