Firebase Cloud Storage is a cloud storage service that was launched by Google in mid-2013. It offers several storage options to meet various business needs, including private and shared containers, object, image, video streaming, and App Engine integration.
What makes Firebase Cloud Storage unique is its automatic scaling feature. The user can choose to store an unlimited amount of data without worrying about hardware capacity. Firebase Cloud Storage has set the limit to 5 TB per account.
Shippo is a cloud-based shipping API for e-commerce businesses designed by 50onRed, a software development company based in Pune, India. Shippo supports more than 40 carriers including DHL, FedEx, UPS, Canada Post, USPS, China Post, Australia Post, Purpator, New Zealand Post, Hong Kong Post, etc.
As mentioned above, Firebase Cloud Storage allows users to store unlimited amount of data while Shippo provides a cloud-based shipping API for e-commerce businesses. Combining these two, one can create an e-commerce system that automates order fulfillment with maximum efficiency. Let’s look at the steps needed to integrate both services.
Step 1. Create an Account on Shippo
Free trial for 30 days after which the monthly fee is USD 9 for 10,000 shipments.
Step 2. Create an Account on Firebase Cloud Storage
Free trial for 30 days after which the monthly fee is USD 13 for 5 TB and 1000 GB per month. Also, there is a free option that comes with a 100 GB limit and no bandwidth limit.
Step 3. Associate your Firebase Cloud Storage Account with Shippo
The most common use case for integrating Firebase Cloud Storage with Shippo is to pull the orders from the former and ship them out using the latter. You can do so by performing the fplowing steps:
Click on “Connect your storage” on the dashboard page. If you don’t see this option, please contact [email protected] and we will add it for you. Choose “Google Firebase” in the dropdown menu and click “Connect”. Enter your Firebase credentials and click “Authorize”. Once authorized, select your project and click “Next”. Select your container name (e.g., myproject-orders. and click “Add”. Click on “Access key” and copy the value of “default_key”. Keep this value safe as you will be using it in the next step to connect Shippo with Google Cloud Storage. Go to the “Storage” tab on the left pane and click “Create a new application”. In the pop up, give a name to your application and paste the value of default_key into the “Key” field. Click on “Create” and then on “Yes” when asked whether you wish to proceed with using this key in production environment. In case you get any error message here, please check if the value of default_key is correct. If it is correct, please contact [email protected] so we can help you further with this issue. Go to the “Storage” tab on the left pane and click on your newly created application under “Applications”. On the right pane under “Storage Location” section, choose your storage bucket from the drop down menu and click on “Save Changes”. This completes the connection between Shippo and Firebase Cloud Storage accounts.
Step 4. Create a Shipment Model in Google Cloud Platform Conspe
To complete this step, you need to have some background knowledge about Google Cloud Platform or GCP. For more information about GCP, you may refer to this tutorial from Google itself. We also recommend you to go through this tutorial to learn how to work with Google Cloud Platform Conspe (GCP. Here are the steps required to create a shipment model in GCP Conspe:
Open GCP Conspe online or download Google Cloud SDK (version 0.20 or later. if you want to work offline (recommended. Run gcloud init command to authenticate with GCP. Use your google account details (email address. to authenticate with GCP Conspe (you may need to run gcloud auth login first. Once authenticated, run gcloud auth application-default print-access-token . This will print two access tokens which you will use later in this tutorial. Go to Google API Conspe online or download Google API Client Libraries (version 0.8 or later. if you want to work offline. Run gcloud auth application-default login . This will print an authorization code which you will use later in this tutorial. Go to https://conspe.developers.google.com/apis/api/go/credentialsproject=<YOUR_PROJECT_ID> . Enter your credentials (email address and password. and click on “Create credentials” button. You should now see that your API project has been created successfully along with credentials for it. You can also see two API keys for this project labeled as “OAuth 2 Client ID” and “Service Account Key” respectively. Note down these API keys as you will be using them later in this tutorial. Go to https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/apis/api/go/addproject=<YOUR_PROJECT_ID>&name=<YOUR_API_NAME>. Copy the OAuth 2 Client ID value for this API key as you will be using it later in this tutorial along with your API key from Step 3 above for this API key here too later in this tutorial. Go to https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/project/<YOUR_PROJECT_ID>/apiui/credentialproject=<YOUR_PROJECT_ID>. Copy the Service Account Key value for this API key as you will be using it later in this tutorial along with your API key from Step 3 above for this API key here too later in this tutorial. Create a project in GCP Conspe if you haven’t done so already by clicking on “Create Project” button under “Projects” section on the left pane of GCP Conspe page (https://conspe.developers.google.com/#projects. Click on “Services & APIs > API Manager > Credentials” under API Manager section on the left pane of GCP Conspe page (https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/#/apis/api-manager/credentials. Click on “Create Credentials” button under API Key section on the right pane of API Manager page under API Manager section (https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/#/apis/api-manager/credentials. Give a name for this API Key as well as the scope (description. below it as shown below. Click on “OK” button once done creating this API Key as shown below. Click on “APIs & Services > APIs” under API Manager section on the left pane of API Manager page (https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/#/apis/api-manager. Click on “Credentials” tab under APIS section on the right pane of API Manager page under API Manager section (https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/#/apis/api-manager/credentials. as shown below. Click on “Create credentials” button under Service Account section on the right pane of Credentials tab under APIs section (https://conspe.developers.googleapis.com/#/apis/api-manager/credentials.
