Integration of BambooHR and Mattermost

Mattermost is an open source, private cloud, Slack-like team communication software. This is a great alternative to Slack since it offers many of the same features as Slack and is open source which makes it free for business to use.

    What is BambooHR?

BambooHR is a Human Resources management software that helps businesses manage their employees. They have a variety of different features including employee self-service, time and attendance, onboarding and offboarding, payroll, and employee files.

    What is Mattermost?

Mattermost is an open source, private cloud, Slack-like team communication software. It was primarily built for internal communications but has been adopted by many companies for external communications.

    Integration of BambooHR and Mattermost

There are two ways to integrate BambooHR and Mattermost.

  • A native integration from BambooHR into Mattermost, or

2. An integration using Zapier.The native integration from BambooHR into Mattermost requires you to install a plugin in the Mattermost application. Once this is installed you can then connect BambooHR to Mattermost and create channels in Mattermost based on your existing projects and jobs in BambooHR. These channels will then be populated with all of the employees associated with those projects and jobs. The benefit of this integration over the Zapier integration is that you will have less lag time between adding new employees to BambooHR and those employees being added to Mattermost. The lag time is usually only about 30 seconds.The second way to integrate these two applications is to use Zapier. In order to do this you need a Zapier account and need to set up webhooks in both Mattermost and BambooHR. The benefit of using Zapier is that you don't need to install any plugins in Mattermost and there is no lag time when adding new employees to BambooHR. The lag time is usually around 10–15 minutes. The downside to this method is that you need a Zapier account which costs $20/month.Once you have set up your webhooks you will be able to create channels in Mattermost based on specific triggers from BambooHR. When an event is triggered in BambooHR, Zapier will then trigger a channel to be created in Mattermost based on the event. This will allow you to have information about your employees all in one place.When setting up Mattermost for external communications it is important to keep in mind that users may be accessing this information from outside of the organization's network so it should not contain sensitive information such as social security numbers, bank account numbers, etc.A good idea would be to add a disclaimer at the top of the page of the Mattermost instance that says something like "This site contains information about our company that may not be considered confidential." This will make sure users are aware that they are looking at information that does not contain sensitive information before they click on links to more detailed information. Also, be sure that any documents uploaded are password protected or shared only with certain groups. You can also use your firewall technology such as Palo Alto Networks or similar to block access from outside the organization's network, if desired.Benefits of Integration of BambooHR and Mattermost

Integrating these two applications allows employees to be more efficient since they will have all of their information in one place rather than having to go to multiple different programs to find what they need. You don't have to purchase any other software since both of these applications are free for business use.
