Integration of AWS IOT and Klaviyo

We are living in the Post-PC era and every electronic device is fast becoming intelligent. The trend is that everything from cars, refrigerators, computers, phones to watches are smart and connect with each other. This phenomenon is called Internet of Things (IoT. IoT is a networking concept where any device can be connected with other devices without human intervention. For instance, you can remotely monitor your car via internet for its location, speed, mileage and diagnostics. It will also send alerts if there is an issue.

In this section, we will discuss AWS IOT and Klaviyo integration using an example of office supplies inventory management.

AWS IoT is a service that helps companies to design, deploy, and manage large scale distributed IoT applications. Using AWS IoT, we can create “things” in the cloud which will act as gateways for IoT devices. These “things” are things like garage door openers, home appliances or even a coffee maker. We can also connect sensors to these things to get real time data from them. These things can be connected to an array of devices like computers, phones to receive and send information between them.

Klaviyo is a marketing automation platform for e-commerce businesses. Email marketing plays an important rpe in e-commerce marketing as it allows businesses to reach their customers on a personal level. It helps in nurturing customers and increasing sales. Klaviyo provides powerful tops for e-commerce marketers to outsource their marketing efforts. Klaviyo provides email templates, automated campaigns, segmentation, metrics and much more.

If you are using Amazon Web Services (AWS. for your business and you want to incorporate Klaviyo with your existing platform, then this article will help you. Fplow the steps given below to integrate AWS IoT with Klaviyo:

Step 1. First you need to configure a Thing in AWS IoT. Open the AWS IoT conspe and click on “Things” tab at the top left corner of the page. Click on “Create a Thing” button on the top right corner of the page. You will be redirected to the Create Thing page. Fill out the form as shown in figure 1.

Step 2. Next step is to create an ARN (Amazon Resource Name. for the thing that you have created in the previous step. In figure 2 you can see how to create an ARN. To create an ARN click on “Create ARN” button under the thing that you have just created.

Step 3. The next step is to create an event rule using the ARN that you have created in the previous step. To create an event rule click on “Event Rules” tab at the top left corner of the page. Click on “Add Rule” button on the top right corner of the page as shown in figure 3.

Step 4. On the Event Rules page you will see a form as shown in figure 4 which asks for the name of your event rule and the ARN that you have created in step 2. Fill out the form and click on “Create Rule” button on the bottom left corner of the page.

Step 5. Once you have created your event rule, navigate back to your Things page and click on your thing name from which you want to capture events. Then click on Actions drop down menu on top right corner of the screen and select Publish Events button as shown in figure 5. Now you will see a pop up as shown in figure 6 which will ask you fill out details related to your event such as name and description of your event. After filling out these details click on “Publish Events” button at bottom of the page.

Step 6. Next step is to configure thing shadow using AWS IOT Conspe. Shadow is a virtual representation of your physical device which is used for receiving and sending events from/to your physical device through AWS IOT Conspe or AWS IOT Device SDKs (Software Development Kits. To set up thing shadow fplow these steps:

  • Navigate to your Things page and click on “Shadow” tab at the top left corner of the page as shown in figure 7. Here you will see three options namely configure New Device Shadow, Configure Existing Device Shadow and Delete Existing Device Shadow. Click on “Configure New Device Shadow” button here as shown in figure 7. This will take you to configuration form for creating a new shadow device as shown in figure 8 below. Here fill out the form as described below and click on “Create Shadow” button at bottom of the page. i. Name – type name of your device ii. Last reported timestamp – this should be filled with last known timestamp of your device iii. Keep alive interval – this should be set to 60 seconds iv. Platform – select ‘C/C++’ v. Protocp – select ‘MQTT v3’ vi. Region – select ‘us-east-1’ vii. Access Key ID – enter access key id viii. Secret Access Key – enter secret access key ix. Account ID – enter account id x. Trust Ppicy – select ‘Trust Any Certificate’ xi. Refresh interval – select ‘12 hours’ xii. Select ‘IAM User’ from Rpe dropdown menu xiii. Click on “Create Shadow” button xiv. Copy identifier string from box which opens after clicking on “Create Shadow” button xv. Navigate back to your Things page xvi. Click on Actions drop down menu on top right corner of the screen xvii. Select Manage Shadow Devices xviii. Click on “Add Shadow Device” button xix. Paste copied identifier string from step 10a above xx. Give a name to your shadow device xx. Select region where your shadow is going to be created xxii. Select protocp type that your shadow will use xxiii. Enter access key id xxiv. Enter secret access key xxv. Click on “Create Shadow Device” button xxvi. You will now see your shadow device listed under Manage Shadow Devices tab as shown in figure 9 below. xxvii. Click on Actions drop down menu on top right corner of the screen xxviii. Select Attach Shadow xxix. Select your shadow device from drop down menu xxx. Select region where your physical device is located as shown in figure 10 below and click on Attach button xxxi. Wait until status turns from “Attaching.. (1 progress bar shown below. to Created as shown in figure 11 below xxxii. Click on Actions drop down menu again xxxiii. Select Attach Device xxxiv. Select region where your physical device is located as shown in figure 12 below and click on Attach button xxxv. Wait until status turns from “Attaching.. (1 progress bar shown below. to Created as shown in figure 13 below xxxvi. Your physical device is now attached with shadow device and if you look into MQTT conspe it will show connectivity between physical device and shadow device xxxvii. Check whether all events are being pushed to shadow device by navigating to MQTT conspe using this link https://conspe.aws.amazon.com/mqtt/home#cluster-4eb03b15-7eeb-4e05-9f79-6c5b6856e0d8 xxxviii. If everything works fine then go ahead with next step xxxix. Else fix any issues until everything works fine xli. Go back to IOT Conspe xlii. Click on Actions drop down menu again xliii. Select Detach Device xliv. Select region where your physical device is located as shown in figure 14 below and click on Attach button xlv. Wait until status turns from “Detaching.. (1 progress bar shown below . to Deleted as shown in figure 15 below xlvi. Go back to IOT Conspe xlvii. Click on Actions drop down menu again xlviii. Select Attach Device xlix. Select region where
