AWS IoT is a fully managed middleware service that allows connected devices to communicate with each other and exchange data over MQTT, HTTP, WebSockets and other protocps. AWS IoT supports multiple device types with different communication protocps, such as Arduino, Python, and .NET. The platform also provides security features via the AWS IoT Device Management Conspe or the AWS IoT API. This conspe offers an easy-to-use dashboard for managing and monitoring all connected devices. With just a few clicks, you can get a list of all devices, send commands, and receive information about them. Moreover, you can set up rules to route messages to specific devices or to create processes that run on your devices.
Firebase is a mobile development platform for Android, iOS, and web apps. It comes with more than 20 products that allow developers to store data and respond quickly to customer engagement. Firebase Cloud Storage helps developers to save images, videos, and any other file directly to their cloud storage. With a simple REST API you can upload an image onto your server or download it to your app. You can also change the visibility of your files by setting them public and private. Another great feature about Firebase Cloud Storage is that it is integrated with Firebase Authentication which allows users to sign in with their Google account without additional permission requests. To top it off, it automatically deletes your file after 30 days if you don’t access it.
In this section, we will show you how to integrate AWS IOT and Firebase Cloud Storage. First, we need a device that runs on AWS IoT like an Arduino or Raspberry Pi and an Android or iOS device (like a smartphone. Next, we will go through the process of connecting both devices. As an example, we will connect an Arduino Uno board to a smartphone using an app called ‘Arduino IDE’ and ‘Temboo’. We will be using an app called ‘IoT Monitor’ for the smartphone side of the project. In this app we will use a Device Client Class that will help us connect our device to our AWS IoT account. We will then build a simple dashboard that will display temperature and humidity readings from our sensor. In the last section of this paper we will go through steps on how to download our files from Firebase Cloud Storage.
