What is AWS IOT?

AWS is a cloud computing platform by Amazon. It provides a broad set of compute, storage, and networking services for building, deploying, and managing applications and services through the internet. AWS has different services based on the type of applications/services needed. One such service is called AWS IOT. AWS IOT means that it is an internet of things. This is a cloud computing platform provided by AWS for the various device manufacturers to connect their devices to the internet and other devices. This implies that now various devices can be connected to the internet.

What is Amazon DynamoDB?

Amazon DynamoDB is a fully managed NoSQL database service by Amazon. It provides fast and predictable performance with seamless scalability. Amazon DynamoDB allows customers to offload the administrative burdens of operating and scaling a database and focus more on their applications. Amazon DynamoDB lets customers quickly and easily back up their data with point-in-time recovery, which can be recovered from any point in time within the last 24 hours.

Integration of AWS IOT and Amazon DynamoDB

AWS IoT is a managed cloud service that enables device connectivity for billions of devices and sensors. One of the components of AWS IoT is the AWS IoT Device Gateway. The AWS IoT Device Gateway connects devices to other AWS services so that devices can send data to AWS IoT, receive commands from AWS IoT, or both. You can use the AWS IoT Device Gateway to create secure tunnels between your devices and other AWS services such as Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon Machine Learning, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), and Amazon DynamoDB.AWS IoT supports two types of protocps for device-to-cloud communication. MQTT and HTTP. MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocp designed for connections with remote locations where network bandwidth is limited. MQTT uses a publish/subscribe model with a very low overhead message protocp. In an MQTT network, there are publishers, subscribers, and brokers. A publisher publishes messages on the network in the form of topics (also known as subject. A subscriber listens for messages published in a specific topic on the network. A broker acts as a go-between that connects publishers with subscribers based on subscriptions. HTTP protocp is simpler than MQTT protocp because MQTT protocp requires an additional configuration step when setting up an MQTT client connection to an MQTT broker. The SDK helps you take advantage of native AWS resources such as scalability, security, global reach, high availability, low latency, disaster recovery, etc., all with minimal coding effort on your part.AWS IOT can also be integrated with Amazon DynamoDB using MQTT protocp for machine to machine communication or HTTP protocp for human to machine communication. Integration of these two systems using MQTT or HTTP protocp helps in simplifying the process of data transfer from an electronic device to a database server (Amazon DynamoDB. over the internet or other networks without requiring any new infrastructure setup or any extra steps (such as creating a tunnel between an electronic device and a database server.

AWS IOT also has an actuator component called AWS IoT Rules Engine that can be used to implement business logic in support of business rules in various devices or machines communicating with each other over AWS IOT by publishing and subscribing messages on behalf of each other using MQTT protocp or HTTP protocp. For example you may want to turn on or off a lamp at home when you are not at home based on whether you have turned off the lights in your house when going out of town or when you left home earlier in the morning before sunrise (for example.AWS IOT Rules engine also has another component called AWS IoT Device Defender that helps protect your devices from unauthorized access or modification. You can configure rules in AWS IoT so that access to your device will only be allowed via authenticated access using user name and password (not sent over the internet. or via application authorization tokens issued by your server (using either MQTT or HTTP protocp. If someone tries to access your device without authenticating themselves you can configure your rules engine to take actions such as locking down your device, turning off your device, sending you an alert via email or SMS message or taking any other action that you want to take if unauthorized access is attempted. You can also configure rules so that if someone tries to change something on your device they do not have permission to change then you can take appropriate actions (send email or SMS message via your rules engine.
