Asana is a combination of two words, “as” which means “union” and “asana” which means “pose.” Ashtanga Yoga is a branch of yoga that focuses on the spiritual path to enlightenment with the practice of eight limbs, which are the yamas, niyamas, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. Ashtanga Yoga was founded by K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century. The teaching of Ashtanga Yoga is based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the writings of Swami Sivananda.
Agendor is a state of mind that is experienced when one contemplates their own existence. It is also referred to as Atman by Hindu philosophy and it means the breath of life or soul. It is the means to gain self-realization and attain enlightenment. It is commonly practiced during meditation since it brings about a sense of relaxation and peace.
In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (verse 2.46), it states that asanas should be done with an intention of stopping the fluctuations of the mind through practicing concentration and awareness during asana. In this way, it becomes a form of meditation and helps practitioners achieve enlightenment. Moreover, the integration of asana and agendor can bring about a sense of calmness in the practitioner. They experience the feeling of being centered and connected to their inner being.
Practicing asanas with an intention to reach higher levels of consciousness can help elevate one’s self-awareness. This would result in having a clearer understanding of one’s own existence and what they really want in life. The practice of both asana and agendor can help one gain a better perspective of life, accept reality for what it is and realize one’s true purpose in life.
