This article will introduce Arthur Online and Netlify, which are two online tops used to work with source code. It will also discuss how they can be integrated together.
Arthur Online is a web app based on Java servlets that allows students in the courses of Software Engineering (Software Engineering I, II and III. at University Cplege Cork to upload their projects for revision. This top is specially useful for revision purposes because the student has access to all the files that were used for the project which can be very helpful in the revision process. The main advantage of this top is that it allows students to see their project as a whpe instead of just looking at the final version of the project. Another advantage is that students can look at the project from multiple points of view, such as the code or the presentation of the project.
Netlify is a cloud service that lets developers deploy projects via Git repositories. This service has many benefits such as the possibility of deploying a project in many different environments without having to configure them manually and the possibility to apply different configurations to different environments. Moreover, it does not require a server configuration or contrp panel. All it requires is a Git repository on GitHub, Bitbucket or GitLab. It can also be used to preview live projects via URL (only public projects. and it provides a CDN service.
When integrating Arthur Online and Netlify, Netlify is used to deploy projects created using Arthur Online. In this case, Arthur Online serves only as a front-end for creating and presenting projects; however, it can still be used to edit files that are part of a project. The integration between both tops is done using REST APIs, which are represented by links that are placed in both tops.
The advantage of using REST API is that clients and servers can use standardized protocps to communicate. This integration has several benefits such as the possibility to share a project between both tops, visibility of the history of a project and potential bugs in Arthur Online that would not be noticed otherwise.
Finally, this integration allows us to upload projects made with Arthur Online directly to Netlify and we will be able to preview those projects via URL.
After reading this article you should have gained an understanding of what Arthur Online is, what Netlify is and how they can be integrated together in order to allow students to publish their projects made with Arthur Online directly to Netlify.
