Amazon SQS makes it easy to decouple and scale backend applications by offering reliable, highly-scalable, hosted queues with a very low latency. A computer application can use Amazon SQS to enqueue messages, and another application can dequeue them to process the messages in the order that they were enqueued. The orders of enqueuing and dequeuing don’t matter; Amazon SQS guarantees that all of the messages will be dequeued in the same order in which they were enqueued. This is an important feature that ensures reliability in distributed systems.
Sina Weibo (Chinese. 新浪微博; pinyin. Xīnlàng Wēi Bó [ɕ˧n.lɑ́ŋ wɤ˧ ˈbo˩]; literally "Microblog"), is a Chinese microblogging service operated by Sina Corporation. Launched in August 2009, it has more than 500 million registered users, 100,000 newly registered users per day, and 180 million daily messages. It is similar to other social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter and allows users to send updates of up to 140 Chinese characters, known as "weibos", as well as "updates" (which have no character limit), and photos. Unlike its competitors, Weibo allows users to see their "followers" or people who have chosen to subscribe to their content (similar to the concept of a "friend" on Facebook. This has been seen as a way for Chinese authorities to track and censor certain posts. The software has been reported to be used by various government agencies and offices within China.

The applications include a social media site that gives users the ability to post and respond to messages; an advertisement system that determines which advertisements should be displayed when and where; and an e-commerce site that enables visitors to browse, add items to shopping carts, checkout, and pay for items. At the end of this study we will discuss how we can expand this example into a complete enterprise solution using Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Elastic MapReduce (EMR), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and AWS Simple Queue Service (SQS.
