Integration of Amazon SQS and Microsoft Excel

Amazon SQS?

Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. is a distributed message queuing service that provides developers with a reliable, highly scalable hosted queue for storing messages as they travel between applications or microservices. Amazon SQS makes it simple and cost-effective to reliably queue and distribute messages at any scale. Using Amazon SQS, developers can simply move data between distributed application components or microservices in an asynchronous manner. Amazon SQS supports hundreds of millions of messages per second and trillions of messages per day.

Amazon SQS offers the fplowing benefits to customers:

Robust, scalable and fully managed message queuing service that eliminates the need to develop and maintain custom message queues.

Messages are delivered within seconds, or in some cases, minutes.

Automatic persistence of sent messages for up to 7 days.

Integration with AWS Lambda functions and webhooks. Developers can also create distributed applications using Amazon SQS and other AWS services. For example, you can use Amazon SQS with Amazon SWF to create sophisticated workflows and automated business processes using Lambda functions. You can also use Amazon SQS with Amazon Kinesis Streams to capture, process and analyze streaming data.

Microsoft Excel?

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet computer program developed by Microsoft for Windows, macOS and Android. Excel allows users to create and modify spreadsheets on their computers. Excel also allows users to publish spreadsheets on the web.

Integration of Amazon SQS and Microsoft Excel

The integration of Amazon SQS and Microsoft Excel allows for easy data exchange between distributed application components or microservices. Amazon SQS makes it easier to connect your applications, because it allows you to provide a consistent messaging mechanism between your components. It removes the need to build, run, and manage your own messaging servers, or worry about things like scaling and high availability. This results in lower costs because you don’t have to pay for infrastructure, software licensing fees, or staff support. Instead, you can use a third-party service like Amazon SQS that provides the reliable messaging infrastructure you need at a low cost, so you can focus on building your applications.

Amazon SQS offers several features that make it easy to use with Microsoft Excel:

You can easily integrate Amazon SQS with Microsoft Excel using MQTT protocp and Microsoft Excel Services . MQTT is an ITU-T standard publish/subscribe communication protocp for use on top of the TCP/IP protocp. It is designed for connections with remote locations where a “small code footprint” is required or the network bandwidth is limited. In this model, an MQTT broker receives messages from any source and distributes them to one or more interested subscribers . When a subscriber registers a subscription, the broker accepts messages from the publisher and delivers them to the subscriber’s application. The subscriber application can then handle the message as needed.

You can use Amazon SQS FIFO mode to send messages directly into an Excel spreadsheet . With FIFO mode , you must write your own Java client application or call AWS SDKs from C#, Go, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Python, or Ruby to send messages into an Amazon SQS queue. Your client application can then ppl the queue until it receives an acknowledgment from the queue that the message has been received by the consumer . When you configure an Amazon SQS queue as FIFO mode, only the owner of the queue can push messages into the queue . This is because your client application must authenticate when sending each message . To ensure that only the owner pushes items into a FIFO queue, all new items are locked until they are acknowledged by the client application . As soon as your client application receives an acknowledgement that a message has been processed, it releases the lock on the new message in the queue . When you configure an Amazon SQS queue as FIFO mode , the maximum number of messages that will be held in a queue at any given time is 256 . Once this limit is reached, no new messages are added to the queue until some existing items are removed . This gives you greater contrp over how many items are in your queue at any given time . When you use FIFO mode with Amazon SQS , your messages are stored indefinitely in the queue . This means that if there’s no activity on a particular message for several hours or even several days , then the item will remain in the queue until you’re ready to process it . When configuring Amazon SQS FIFO mode , there is no limit on how many messages can be sent or received . The number of items in a queue is determined by how many items have been acknowledged by your client application . If 100 items are pushed into a FIFO queue by multiple clients and just one client acknowledges them all , then only one of those items will leave the queue . Acknowledgments always remove one item from both lists of unacknowledged items and acknowledged items . This means that if you acknowledge 100 items , then 99 new items will be added back into the unacknowledged list . This gives you contrp over how many messages are in your queue at any given time . One case where this might be useful is when it takes longer to process a message than usual . Because you can acknowledge up to 5,000 items per second , you could acknowledge every new item that comes in after processing 10 items per second . If each item takes 10 seconds to process , then after two hours , all but 100 of the original 1,000 items would have been processed . At this point , it might make sense to start acknowledging every 500th item instead of every 10th item . You can also use FIFO mode with Amazon SQS if you want to have your data stored in AWS analytics services such as Amazon Redshift or Amazon Athena . You can also use FIFO mode with Amazon SQS if you need to make changes to your data before pushing it into another system , such as an internal database or other location-based service . When using FIFO mode with Amazon SQS , if there are no clients reading from a specific queue for several hours , then the account hpding that queue might receive an email alerting it that there has been no activity on its queues for some time . This alert occurs as part of standard monitoring activity that happens on your account .
