Integration of Amazon SNS and Intercom

Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS. is a web service that allows developers to build distributed applications that send and receive messages, and to manage the delivery of those messages. Amazon SNS can be used to build scalable, reliable, and secure push-based messaging applications. With Amazon SNS, you can send messages from any application to any application or device. The Amazon SNS service handles the routing of the message so that it reaches its intended destination using the protocol specified by the developer. With Amazon SNS, you can also use the Simple Notification Service Notification Hubs to transmit data to other AWS services or custom applications.In this article I will discuss how to integrate Amazon SNS and Intercom.

    Integration of Amazon SNS and Intercom

In order to integrate Amazon SNS with Intercom, we need to create a new template in our account in AWS console. We need to give some information about the template like Description and TemplateName etc. then follow the steps below:

  • Open your browser and connect to https://console.aws.amazon.com/sns/home#otification-templates .
  • Click on Create notification template button.
  • Choose the recipients and delivery options for your notifications.
  • Give a name for your template, description, and choose trigger type.
  • Save it.
  • Go to aws_intercom_app_id and copy the appId value.
  • Go to aws_intercom_secret and copy the secretKey value
  • Now go to aws_intercom_region and copy region value.
  • Go to aws_intercom_topic and copy topic value.
  • Now we have all the values required for integration with intercom, so let's go back to our notification template page and enter our values there under  Properties > Notification Template Details
  • Click on Add filter rule link above the table which is shown when you click on Properties -> Notification Template Details link.
  • Select Type as http-header and select Name as X-Intercom-App .
  • Click on Add filter rule button.
  • Enter intercom_app_id value which was copied before in Step 6 above in Value field.
  • Click on Add filter rule button, it will show something like bellow image, just click on Test notification button to test if you have entered values correctly or not.
  • If you get any error it means you need to change values of intercom_app_id , intercom_secret and intercom_region .
  • Now we are done with our template creation we will now test our notification with sample message and see if it works or not by clicking on Test with sample message button at bottom of the page in step 15 above, after clicking on that button it will ask you to specify message text by entering message text in text area and hitting send button, if it gives you success message your integration with Intercom is successful else if not then you need to check whether your values are correct or not as given bellow image:
  • Now you can save your template by clicking on the Save button at top right corner of the screen as shown bellow image:
