Integration of Amazon SNS and Eventbrite

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS. is a simple, flexible, and cost-effective publish/subscribe messaging service that makes it easy to distribute messages to mobile phones, email addresses, and Internet-connected devices.

Eventbrite is an online ticketing service used to manage event registration. Eventbrite was created in 2006 by Julia Hartz, Kevin Hartz, and Renaud Visage. It has since grown into a large community of event organizers, musical acts, venues, festivals, non-profit organizations and more.

    Integration of Amazon SNS and Eventbrite

SNS supports many different types of message formats, including emails (SMTP), SMS, and HTTP/HTTPS. To integrate with Eventbrite, the user must first be granted access to the Eventbrite API. This is done by visiting the “Developers” tab at the top left corner of Eventbrite.com. Once there, click on “Register New Application.” This will bring up a form that must be filled out in order to gain access to the API. The form requires a name for the developer company, as well as a description of what the application will do. The form also requires a redirect URL so that if there are any errors accessing the API they can be sent to the correct website. It may take several days for Eventbrite to approve the developer’s application. Once this has been done, SNS can then be integrated with Eventbrite. The message format that can be used to notify Eventbrite users about upcoming events is called JSON. The JSON format consists of a main key that identifies the type of message being sent in the body of the message itself. For example, if an SNS message was being sent to notify users about a new upcoming event being added to an already registered event it would look like this:

{ "Records":[ { "name":"Eventbrite Example", "end_time":"2016-01-01T00:00:00Z", "start_time":"2015-12-11T00:00:00Z", "description":"An example event.", "location":"The Space Needle", "venue_id":"12345", "status":"active", "created_at":"2015-12-14T04:05:30Z", "updated_at":"2015-12-14T04:05:30Z", "permalink":"/events/12345", "url":"/events/12345" } }

As shown above, the JSON message consists of a list of records. Each record has its own unique ID number and contains information about that particular event. The structure of each record is made up of five main parts. name, end_time, start_time, description, and venue_id. Each record will contain some, if not all, of these key elements depending on which type of message is being sent (there are other elements that could be included in each record but are not necessary. In order to send an SNS message to all users registered for an event it only needs to contain the venue_id key element along with the status key element. Also, a message does not need to have all the elements within each record; for example, if the end_time were not included in any record then no end time would be set for any currently registered event.

    Benefits of Integration of Amazon SNS and Eventbrite

Notifying people about upcoming events through their preferred communication channel is extremely beneficial because it allows users to participate in those events even if they are unable to attend them in person due to distance or other circumstances outside their control. Being able to use multiple communication channels for notifications also helps to increase attendance at events as it gives people more options for how they want to receive notifications about events. Using Amazon SNS with Eventbrite enables users to integrate a variety of different communication methods into one convenient place where they can manage their entire event experience from one website.
