Integration of Amazon S3 and Tableau

When you hear the name Amazon, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? If you are like most people, one of the things that come to mind is Amazon S3. Amazon S3 is a storage solution for any company that needs to store large amounts of data. In this paper, we will be discussing how Tableau integrates with Amazon S3 and what the benefits of integration of the two are.Tableau is a business intelligence tool that allows users to visualize and analyze data in a variety of ways. It is a great tool to use because it allows users to do everything from retrieving data to visualizing it right on their desktop. It works by connecting to different types of databases to retrieve information such as Excel, SQL, and Postgres. This makes it very versatile because the user does not need to know anything about the underlying technology used to connect to the database. The user just needs to know what data they want and where to get it. Tableau allows users to create all sorts of visuals such as charts, tables, and maps. This allows users to easily understand the underlying data and make important decisions based on that data.Tableau has a great deal of support for the cloud but has some connectivity issues when using Amazon S3. Amazon S3 gives users access to a lot of services including easy retrieval of data from other cloud based services such as Heroku, Microsoft Office 365, and Salesforce. However, Tableau does not interface well with Amazon S3. Users are forced to use a new feature added in Tableau 9. the Tableau data extract (TDE. This allows users to create a TDE from a source and then load it into Tableau via a .tab file, which is basically a text file. This allows users to use data stored on Amazon S3 within Tableau.

Integration of Amazon S3 and Tableau

The biggest issue with integrating Tableau with Amazon S3 is that there is not an out-of-the-box solution for doing so. However, there are several workarounds that can be used to integrate the two services. The first workaround involves using an external data source that can connect to both Amazon S3 and Tableau. These kinds of sources give users easy access to data stored on Amazon S3 by using the AWS command line interface (CLI. or another application such as SQLServer or PostgresSQL. Allowing the application to communicate with Amazon S3 via the CLI requires a lot of technical knowledge. Additionally, it requires that the user know how to navigate and work with multiple operating systems. The second workaround involves using an extract as mentioned above. Users can create a .tab file which is basically a text file containing the data that the user wants to load into Tableau. The .tab file can then be loaded into Tableau from within the software itself. This requires even more technical knowledge than using an extracted source because the user must have data extraction knowledge in order to create the .tab files used in this method. The third workaround involved creating a custom Web Data Connector (WDC. WDCs are basically extensions created in Java that allow users to access data stored on a server through Tableau's Workspace system. A WDC can be made by anyone who knows how to program in Java and knows how to use Tableau's API for Java. The advantage of using this workaround is that it requires no technical knowledge on behalf of the user and is fairly straightforward to install; however, it only works if the user has access to Java development software. B. Benefits of Integration of Amazon S3 and Tableau

The biggest benefit of using Amazon S3 in conjunction with Tableau is that it allows users to combine their data from other cloud services alongside their own data in order to create useful visualizations. This means that users can take advantage of their own data along with data from other cloud based services in order to create better visualizations that allow them to make important decisions regarding their business operations or other aspects of their life such as finding investment opportunities or making lifestyle choices based on statistical probabilities. Another benefit is that it provides online backup capability for Tableau users who may not have access to large amounts of physical space for storing their backup files.

Tableau is a very useful tool for analyzing data whether it comes from an internal database or from an external source such as Amazon S3; however, there are some drawbacks associated with those kinds of integrations. There are several workarounds that can be used however; however, these workarounds require technical knowledge on behalf of the user in order for them to implement them correctly which can be intimidating for non-technical users and also time consuming for those who have little time on their hands due to their busy schedules.

The process to integrate Amazon S3 and Tableau may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick solution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
