What is Amazon S3?

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3. is a web service that provides storage through web servers. It offers five storage classes. Standard, Standard-Infrequent Access, One Zone-Infrequent Access, Glacier and Reduced Redundancy Storage. Office 365 is a suite of services offered by Microsoft for businesses and individuals. Office 365 is designed to integrate on-premises software with cloud services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Skype for Business Online. The service also includes features for identity, calendar, contact management, and other collaboration tools.

Integration of Amazon S3 and Office 365

Integrated Data Management Platforms (IDMP. combines on-premises software with cloud services to simplify data management tasks. Microsoft’s IDMP includes Azure Backup for Windows Server and Azure Site Recovery (ASR. for Hyper-V. ASR simplifies the process of moving virtual machines from on-premises to Azure. ASR can replicate Hyper-V virtual machines between Hyper-V hosts and Azure IaaS VMs running within a region. This is a straightforward way to migrate legacy systems to the cloud.A benefit of the integration of Office 365 and Amazon S3 is its ability to provide secure storage for data backed up by Azure Backup and ASR. For example, you can use Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2016 with Azure Backup and ASR to back up data to an Amazon S3 bucket. You can then use AWS Identity Access Management (IAM. to manage who has access to your data in Amazon S3.

Amazon S3 + Azure Backup + ASR + IAM = Integrated Data Management PlatformsOther ways of integrating Office 365 with Amazon S3 include using the AWS Management Console to create an account called “Microsoft” and assigning it an access key and secret key. You can then copy those keys into PowerShell and run the following command:This will create an IAM user called “AzureBackupAdmin” with permissions to access the Amazon S3 bucket you specify. You can then use this new user’s credentials to connect to that bucket and move data from other sources to it. For example, there are many third party tools that can backup SQL Server data directly to an Amazon S3 bucket, so you can use this combination for backup purposes as well.
