Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. Amazon EC2 eliminates the need for most of the IT infrastructure that would ordinarily be required to support applications. Flock is a social networking site which was launched in August 2005 and has over 20 million members.

Integration of Amazon EC2 and Flock

Amazon EC2 is mainly used to host web applications. It provides access to a variety of pre-configured virtual machine images, or as an image repository, allowing users to launch an Amazon Machine Image (AMI. The AMI acts as the template for the computer server on which its instance will run. An AMI can be launched as many times as desired, and it maintains its state even when it is terminated and started again. Amazon EC2 allows users to select from a list of instance types, allowing them to trade off cost for performance, or storage for processing power.

An instance of Amazon EC2 runs a guest operating system, such as Windows or Linux, allowing users to install almost any software that runs on that operating system. An instance is billed based on its usage of Amazon EC2 resources, such as the amount of CPU time spent, the data transferred out of Amazon EC2, and the number of running hours or minutes.

Flock is a social networking site that allows Facebook users to manage their profiles and connect with friends. The website was founded by Evan Williams, founder of Blogger and Twitter; Noah Glass, designer and co-founder of Odeo; and Biz Stone, co-founder of Obvious Corp., which includes Blogger and Twitter.

Flock allows users to add friends through email addresses, known as "flocking", or through Facebook accounts. Once connected, Flock users can share photos, videos, and messages with each other. They can also set up photo streams to view shared media from multiple people at once.

Flock offers additional features such as identifying friends nearby via GPS integration, letting users check-in to locations and adding events to a calendar.
