Amazon CloudWatch provides a set of monitoring and analytics services that help running applications more efficiently. In order to achieve this goal, the user must perform the following steps:

  •       Create an Amazon Key Management Service (KMS. customer master key (CMK.
  •       Create an IAM role for the instance user.
  •       Create an Amazon KMS customer master key (CMK.
  •       Create a key policy with permissions for Amazon EC2 and Amazon CloudWatch actions.
  •       Associate the CMK with the key policy.
  •       Create an Amazon S3 bucket with access controlled by the IAM role.
  •       Create an IAM role for the instance user and associate it with the S3 bucket policy.
  •       Create an IAM group that has permissions to use Amazon CloudWatch Logs.
  •       Associate the group with the instance in order to be able to collect logs from it.
  •       Create a log group for Amazon CloudWatch Logs with permissions for Amazon EC2 and CloudWatch actions.
  •      Create an Amazon CloudWatch Logs stream with permissions for Amazon EC2 and CloudWatch actions.
  •      Enable access logs for an instance using Amazon CloudWatch Logs.
  •      Create a CloudWatch Alarm that monitors resource utilization of the instance using CloudWatch metrics and thresholds.
  •      Create a CloudWatch Alarm for instance termination using tags and change detection rules.
  •      View alarms in AWS Management Console.
  •      Modify alarm thresholds based on results of test cases for different types of load generation and data processing workloads, as well as results from previous tests performed on your infrastructure with Amazon EC2 and Amazon CloudWatch integration.
  •      Enable notifications from alarms using email, SMS messages, and other notification channels available from AWS management console.
  •      Enable notifications from alarms using AWS Simple Notification Service (SNS.
