CloudWatch is a monitoring service that collects and stores various metrics in Amazon Web Services (AWS. like CPU load, Disk I/O, Network Traffic, and other application-specific metrics. It allows to send those metrics to multiple destinations like a S3 bucket, a Lambda function, or an SNS topic. SNS topics are used for sending notifications about events, such as when a metric threshold is exceeded.

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS. is a push notification service that enables applications to send messages to subscribing endpoints or subscribers. SNS supports multiple protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, email, and SMPP.

Drip is an automation tool that gives users the ability to schedule recurring tasks without requiring an engineer's intervention. Drip's integration with CloudWatch enables you to create alarms that trigger notifications when a certain condition is met. These alarms can be triggered by a single metric exceeding a specified threshold or by a combination of metrics exceeding the specified thresholds. When one of these alarms is triggered, notifications can be sent via SNS or email.

The integration of AWS CloudWatch with Drip enables users to automatically receive notifications based on the monitored metrics from CloudWatch. CloudWatch monitors the number of requests received in a second for each application in AWS and then triggers an alarm if the threshold is exceeded. This alarm will be handled by Drip which will send out notifications via an SNS topic. An account can subscribe to this topic and receive notifications via SMS/email upon receiving such notifications.

Benefits of integrating AWS CloudWatch with Drip:

  • Users can receive automated notifications regarding the performance of their applications without having to write any code or go through the process of installing monitoring agents.
  • The monitoring service is scalable and highly available, allowing users to efficiently monitor their resources.
  • The integration with Drip allows users to set up rules for handling incidents of excess or anomalies in the metrics being tracked by CloudWatch. For example, you can set up notification rules to notify you by phone, email, or SMS whenever there is an anomaly detected in any of the metrics being monitored by CloudWatch.
  • AWS CloudWatch has flexible pricing models that allow users to pay for only what they use at a low cost per hour.
  • AWS CloudWatch allows users to do cross-region monitoring, while Drip provides detailed reports in accordance with your organization’s SLA requirements.
