The above outline follows the same principles of outlining an article. First we need to introduce the topic, then we give the details, and finally we conclude our findings and generalize the information for the reader.

In this post, we will discuss how to create a template in Airtable and use it in your Basecamp 2 project. We will go through each step and learn how to use Airtable in multiple ways so you can actually use it instead of just using it.

This post is part of a series on how to use Airtable with Basecamp 2:

Let’s get started!

Create a New Template in Airtable

Start by creating a new template in Airtable. Go to your dashboard and click “New Template”:

Fill out the details:

This will create a blank template with the following fields:

Import Your Google Spreadsheet into Airtable (optional)

Before we start linking things together, let’s take advantage of the power of Airtable by importing a Google spreadsheet into it. This allows us to add extra columns of data that were not available in the spreadsheet. In addition, we can add other features like adding checkboxes or labels.

Note. If you don’t have a Google spreadsheet, you can use any spreadsheet file as long as it has a column for each field in your table. Then you can follow these steps to import this spreadsheet into Airtable.

Add a new row, and select “Linked Table” from the Field Type dropdown:

Select “Google Sheets” as the Linked Table type:

Click “Edit Linked Table”:

You may be asked to sign into your Google account, and authorize access to your Google Drive if you haven’t done so before:

After logging in, you will be redirected to a page on Dropbox which will show you all your Google spreadsheets:

Select your spreadsheet:

Now go back to Airtable, and select “My Drive” from the Linked Table dropdown menu:

Select the file:

Click “Link Table” to finish linking your spreadsheet:

You will now see that your Google spreadsheet is linked to your table which will allow you to view all its columns:

Add More Data to Your Airtable Template (Optional)

Now that your template is set up, you can add data to it. Simply add as many rows as you need to create the outline for your article (or whatever else. You can also add checkboxes or labels to indicate whether something is completed or not. For example, you can create an invoice template to track invoices that are sent out:

Then you can link this template to a new project in Basecamp 2 where you can enter the date when an invoice was sent out:

Create Links Between Your Spreadsheet and Airtable Template (Optional)

If you want, you can also create links between your spreadsheet and your template. This will allow you to update one document without having to update the other. For example, you can link your Gmail contacts list with your template where each contact’s name will be pulled from Gmail:
