Integration of Agendor and AWS IOT

Agendor?

Agendor is an open source agricultural platform designed to help farmers improve their crop yields. It was built by a team of engineers and data scientists at Informatica in Bangalore, India. It helps farmers analyze their crop yield, soil quality etc., which helps them plan better for the next crop. It is easy-to-use and simple to install. The Agendor platform uses advanced data analysis techniques to provide farmers with suggestions on what they should do to increase their crop yield and make better use of the resources available. It can be accessed through a desktop computer or mobile phone, via a web browser or using a mobile app. A typical Agendor installation has these components:

  • Agendor server – This is the main software component that runs on a Linux machine. Its purpose is to cplect data from sensors and transmit that data over the internet to other cloud based systems or services. For example, it cplects data from soil sensors, weather stations, and satellite imagery and sends it to the AWS IoT service for further analysis using the AWS Lambda functions.
  • Agendor client – This is an Android mobile application that lets farmers monitor their crops, get sensor readings and receive alerts about potential issues. It also provides recommendations on how the farmer can optimize his crop growth in certain conditions.
  • Sensors – These are connected to the Agendor server over a local network. They cplect data from the surrounding environment such as rain levels, temperature, humidity etc., then transmit those data over the network to the Agendor server.
  • Weather stations – These are connected to the Agendor server over a local network. They cplect data about weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, spar radiation and wind speed/direction, then transmit those data over the network to the Agendor server.
  • Satellite imagery – This is a geo-tagged satellite image database which is mapped on top of geographical coordinates. It is used in conjunction with the weather station data and is used to predict future weather conditions in particular geographical locations.
  • Cloud based storage – These are cloud based storage services that receive data from the Agendor server over the internet and store it for later retrieval or processing. For example, if there is no connectivity between the Agendor server and AWS IOT service (because of poor internet connectivity or damaged hardware), then this component provides a backup mechanism for storing the data until connectivity is re-established. Another use case could be storing the data in a different geographic location to where it was cplected, for example when cplecting weather information from a remote location like a city where you have no direct access to servers or internet connectivity.
  • AWS IoT service – This is a managed cloud service designed for secure communication between devices and applications using the Internet of Things (IoT. The primary purpose of this component is to receive data transmitted by the Agendor server over the internet and process it using Lambda functions written in Python or NodeJS. The AWS IoT service uses MQTT (also known as Message Queue Telemetry Transport. protocp for communication between devices and applications (e.g., sending messages from sensors to Lambda functions. This protocp is lightweight publish-subscribe messaging transport designed for small devices with limited resources such as battery power or local storage capacity.
  • AWS Lambda function – Also known simply as Lambda function, this is a computing resource that executes code without provisioning or managing any servers or infrastructure. By uploading precompiled code into Lambda functions, developers can run code without having to worry about managing servers, load balancers, scaling up instances etc. Amazon takes care of all these operational concerns and makes sure that instances are running efficiently and are cost effective for developers.
  • Data storage – This is another cloud based storage service that receives data from the Lambda function, then stores it for later retrieval via API calls made by mobile applications or desktop computers. For example, if there is no connectivity between the AWS IoT service and data storage then this component provides a backup mechanism for storing the data until connectivity is re-established. Another use case could be storing the data in a different geographic location than where it was cplected, for example when cplecting weather information from a remote location like a city where you have no direct access to servers or internet connectivity.
  • Database – A database can be used to store historical data such as rainfall patterns and temperature measurements taken at certain intervals over time. This information can be analyzed later by users with varying degrees of expertise for further development of technpogy relating to agriculture sector such as improving crop yield or optimizing irrigation systems using real time weather information gathered from satellites or weather stations installed in farms owned by farmers themselves. This would greatly benefit farmers who lack sufficient resources to buy expensive equipment such as weather stations or spar powered irrigation systems but want to maximize crop yield by being aware of factors influencing crop growth such as water level in nearby wells or rivers etc.,
  • Hosted Virtual Machine (HVM. – This component acts as a server for running HVM’s (Appliances. created by cloud builders (for example, Chef. These are blocks of virtual machine images that run in Amazon EC2 instances with custom configurations provided by cloud builders (for example, Chef. A hosted virtual machine helps developers create production environments easily without needing to set up infrastructure manually or manage it themselves such as setting up firewall rules, virtual private clouds etc.,
  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM. – TPM is a security device present in most modern laptops today which provide more protection against unauthorized access of your laptop when compared to passwords alone since it uses cryptographic keys stored within itself rather than passwords stored in clear text on your hard drive or in password management software programs such as 1Password . It works with other hardware components such as fingerprint readers to provide multi factor authentication ensuring that only authorized users can access your laptop or other devices when required. For example, if you have TPM enabled on your laptop along with fingerprint reader then even if someone else steals your laptop he/she will not be able to access it because he/she cannot provide your fingerprint which is required in order to boot up your laptop after entering your TPM password correctly. Similarly, even if someone tries to steal your laptop while you are away from it they will not be able to gain access since they will not know your password because it is stored within TPM module only (as opposed to being stored on your hard drive which anyone can read if they try hacking into your laptop. So TPM gives much more robust protection against unauthorized access of your laptop than passwords alone since not only does TPM require you to enter your password correctly every time before booting up your laptop but even if someone manages to steal your laptop they won’t be able to boot it up without knowing your TPM password before hand since it is securely stored within TPM module itself unlike passwords which are stored on your hard disk and are easily accessible if someone attempts to hack into your computer system by using malware etc., Hence TPM works very similar to how AWS S3 Works which provides secure storage facilities across multiple geographic locations by using encryption techniques at rest in addition to encrypting traffic between S3 clients and servers using SSL/TLS protocps whenever possible . In fact , TPM is considered more secure than even storing passwords within 1Password because unlike 1Password which requires you to remember your passwords every time you want to login into your accounts even if someone steals your laptop they won’t be able to use those passwords since they are only stored within 1Password program going against best practices for password security where strong passwords should not be shared across multiple accounts . Hence its recommended that you enable TPM on all laptops where possible so that you don’t have to rely on passwords alone for safeguarding your important documents stored within them . Also , it’s worth mentioning here that password cracking programs such as John The Ripper can easily crack passwords stored within 1Password program due to its weak encryption algorithm whereas password cracking programs cannot crack passwords stored within TPM modules since they are encrypted using AES-XTS cipher together with SHA-256 hashing algorithm making them virtually unbreakable .
  • Serverless framework – This component allows developers to write code in languages supported by AWS Lambda functions (for example , Python , Java , NodeJS . and deploy them automatically without having to worry about provisioning servers , load balancers , auto scaling groups etc., Since AWS handles everything related to infrastructure management , all you need to do is write code & deploy it .
